Knuckles seems fairly balanced, the few times he does excel is probably more fault of unfortunate map design, as in there are a lot big cuts you can take, which honestly is fair game as it slows him down a fair bit usually.
I think they are at most useful to get used to the game but I am not sure if Knuckles or Tails would do a better job at that. Sonic & Shadow seem to be the same and honestly a bit underwhelming. I think it's a great and fun game! It is however a bit unbalanced when it comes to characters. I found this game like a bit more than a week ago and have been grinding times.

Since then I always followed the blue hedgehog adventure and played most of its game. My first console was a Genesis / Megadrive with the first Sonic game. The level design is inspired by Trackmania tracks, but filled with badniks, spikes and other dangers. Some of the classic Sonic mechanics have been modified, such as the homing attack. The game features singleplayer time attack and online multiplayer racing mode. Sonic Revert is a reimagining of the Sonic gameplay but where Sonic is controlled like a car when he's in running mode.
